A Note on Laparoscopic vs. Open Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery is preferred to open surgery for a number of sound reasons. First, there are smaller incisions and therefore better cosmesis, the medical term for the preservation of physical appearance. There is also a decreased incidence of wound infections and a reduction of scar tissue formation inside the body. Finally, patients typically experience faster recovery from laparoscopic surgery than from open surgery. This means a reduced hospital stay and faster return to work and other normal activities.
